To celebrate 10 years of Mouse Guard, David Petersen held a special panel at Emerald City Comicon in Seattle, WA, as well as had a very very large Lego display. He talked to us about what to expect in the next year, and even read two of his short comics to us (Oh Day Away and The Tale of Thane & Ilsa)! As the front line reporter, I'll be going over everything he said.
I'll start with the more current happenings. As you may know, Israel Skelton's company, the Skelton Crew, as made scale replicas of the Black Axe (in gold and pewter), Lieam's sword, and Rand's shield, all available on their online store. Skelton Crew has also started making plushies! Saxon and Kenzie are out now, and Lieam and Sadie are the next pair to be made.
A couple years ago, David and Luke Crane designed a special RPG, with special dice and cards and everything, but it went out of print very quickly. Sometime in the next 2 months, the 2nd edition of the RPG will be released. New box, new card art, even some new rules! Save those pennies! While talking about this, David stated that, "I don't think I'd be the storyteller I am today if I hadn't roleplayed with my friends."
Remember the board game that Saxon and Kenzie were playing in the epilogue of Fall? Well, David made it into a working game, Swords & Strongholds. Right now it's in production madness, but after that, the Kickstarter orders will be sent off, and then it will make its way to stores.
In July, David is releasing The Art of Mouse Guard: 2005-2015. Its 12x12 (like Winter B&W), 368 pages, and has art dating all the way back to 1992! It will have process shots, scribbly concept art, colored pages, even pictures of David's models! It'll be about $60.
Last but definitely not least, the special Mouse Guard Lego display! Pictures below for those that couldn't make it. Alice Finch (who has done several other projects like Hogwarts and Rivendell) and 21 other members of ARCHLUG worked tirelessly for 1000 hours to bring you this amazing display, which includes Lockhaven, Shorestone, and Port Sumac. It's 30 feet long and made with over 250,000 bricks. There was a Kickstarter campaign recently for custom mouse heads, swords, tankards, and capes. The model will be displayed at Brickcon later this year, but will make no other appearances.
